SS08 TREND REPORT

This is a post dedicated to Lucinda and I's obsession with ideas being outlined and described in point form. It makes us feel in control and on top of our game.

HYPER REALITY
Bending our sense of perception, these real/unreal/surreal
pieces combine photography and computer manipulation
to create images that have an ambiguous quality. The
perfection of the composition causes the viewer to
question whether what they are seeing is real or not.

BLACK AND WHITE
Richly detailed fine line illustration which is essentially
clear-cut and graphic. Ethereal and dreamlike in theme,
this work is very much considered in execution; a
thoughtful approach which signals the confidence of
a craftsman. Working in black & white means having
to really strive to communicate, with a strong idea and
focused composition, as nothing can be hidden under
layers of colour.

CMYK
Four colour print processes: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and
Black. Traditional printing techniques and colour theory
references. Bold and abstract, incorporating stripes,
spray techniques and half-tone patterning. Black bases
give the primary colour luminosity. Additional colours such
as purple and blue add Eighties appeal.

OPTICAL PATTERN
Clean, considered graphics and optical patterns are
combined to create rhythmical and poetic prints.
High-contrast monochrome designs create striking
graphic statements. Clashing abstract shapes and
patterns sit side by side, without the need for heavy
outlines. Experiments with pattern within pattern –
blocked shapes, dots and stripes in multiple scales
to create optical narratives.
